Our Crud Busting service, which is a deep agitation and mixing process, starts at $75 and may take a couple of hours depending on buildup. Riser installation starts at $150 for a plastic riser. What is Crud Busting and do I need it?

Crud Busting is our tank mixing and agitation service. Over time, thick sludge and hardened material can build up on the bottom and walls of your tank. A standard pump-out may not remove all of it. Crud Busting uses high-pressure agitation to break up that hardened material and suspend it so it can be fully pumped out. We recommend it if your tank has not been pumped in many years or if we see heavy buildup during your service.

What should I expect during a pump-out appointment?

We will arrive with our pump truck and locate your septic tank access lid. If the lid is buried, we can dig it up for an additional fee. Once the lid is open, we pump out all the waste from the tank, visually inspect the tank condition and baffles, and let you know if we see any issues. The process typically takes about 30 to 60 minutes depending on tank size and accessibility. We handle all waste disposal at approved facilities.

What should I never flush or put down the drain with a septic system?

Never flush or drain the following: wipes of any kind (even those labeled flushable), feminine hygiene products, paper towels, diapers, cat litter, cooking grease or oils, coffee grounds, paint, chemicals, medications, or excessive amounts of bleach or antibacterial cleaners. These items can clog your system, kill the beneficial bacteria in your tank, or damage your drain field. Stick to toilet paper and normal household wastewater.

In most cases, no. A properly functioning septic system has all the bacteria it needs to break down waste naturally. Many commercial additives are unnecessary and some can actually harm your system or push solids into your drain field. The best things you can do are pump your tank on schedule, be careful about what you flush, and spread out water usage throughout the week.

You can, but use it sparingly. Garbage disposals send food solids into your septic tank, which increases the sludge layer and means you will need to pump more frequently. If you do use one, avoid putting fibrous vegetables, grease, bones, or coffee grounds down the disposal. Consider composting food scraps instead to reduce the load on your septic system.

How do I protect my drain field?

Keep vehicles, heavy equipment, and structures off your drain field. Do not plant trees or shrubs with deep roots near it, as roots can infiltrate and damage the pipes. Direct roof drains, sump pumps, and other surface water away from the drain field area. Avoid compacting the soil over it. And most importantly, keep your septic tank pumped on schedule so that solids do not flow out into the drain field and clog it.

Yes, we pump septic tanks year-round. Indiana winters can make access more challenging if the ground is frozen or covered in snow, but we are equipped to handle it.
